Project 1087: TPO overlay on a gypsum deck in Lubbock
Project 1087 in Lubbock upgraded a 20-plus-year gravel built-up roof over a gypsum deck for an owner rehabilitating the building into office rental space. Because gypsum decks resist standard fastener pull-out, DensDeck reinforced the existing single-layer roof and a fully adhered TPO membrane completed the overlay under current recover rules.

How we approached it
Gypsum decks do not hold standard fasteners the way steel or concrete do. The owner still needed a durable upgrade for office tenants without a full tear-off.
Because only one roofing layer was in place, an overlay was allowed. DensDeck reinforced the surface, then a fully adhered TPO membrane delivered waterproofing and energy performance with attachment detailing matched to the gyp deck.
