Copper Rawlings Senior Center roof replacement
Core Commercial Roofing & Coatings was selected by the City of Lubbock to replace the roof at Copper Rawlings Senior Center, located at 213 40th Street. The center provides senior programming, weekday lunches, adult classes, and fitness opportunities. Protecting this community facility meant looking beyond the membrane to the full roof assembly.

Before and during the work

A system suited to the existing deck
The existing roof consisted of an older built-up roofing system over a gypsum deck. Because of the existing deck, Core used a fully adhered replacement assembly with OlyBond adhesive rather than a conventional mechanically attached roof. This approach reduced reliance on fastening into the existing gypsum substrate.
Insulation, protection, and a fleeceback membrane
The new assembly incorporated two layers of polyiso insulation, 1/2-inch DensDeck roof board, and a 60-mil fleeceback TPO membrane. Polyiso helps limit heat transfer through the roof, while a two-layer layout allows insulation joints to be offset to reduce gaps through the assembly. DensDeck adds a rigid protective layer that helps resist impact and damage from maintenance traffic.
The fleece backing adds reinforcement beneath the TPO and helps improve puncture resistance. The membrane was fully adhered with OlyBond, creating the new roof's weatherproofing surface.
Drainage and rooftop coordination
The project also included new drainage and tapered insulation. Tapered insulation introduces slope into the roof assembly, helping direct water toward drainage points and reduce areas where water can collect.
Rooftop units and gas lines were raised as part of the work to accommodate the new roof assembly and provide access for roofing and flashing around equipment and penetrations.
From the gypsum deck to the drainage layout, this project reflects Core's approach to commercial reroofing: address the full system and the details that support long-term performance.
